From Steven W,. Swarthout

During 1978-79, I was one of the numerous LDS men in the U.S Navy who visited Guantanamo Bay, or "Gitmo" for training. We were able to attend services at the small chapel there. I particularly recall one Sunday when three of us, from two or three ships, showed up for priesthood, and doubled the attendance. We were always well received.

Most of the branch were families stationed there. Those of us on board ship were only there for a few weeks at a time, and often, say one Sunday in three, were required to remain onboard as the "duty section".
